Design horror stories, LinkedIn advice, design party IRL in Bangkok!
Hey Buddies! We’ve been traveling around Asia (+ quick stop in Miami, long story) this fall and winter. I (Grace Ling) am currently living in Bangkok for the month of November after spending a month in Bali!
In Bali, we just hosted a wonderful Halloween party with Edward, me, and the UX Bali community. We loved meeting our buddies from Indonesia!
This was at Bunny Villa, our content creator villa, hosted by me and Justin! See more photos and videos here!
After Bangkok, we’re going to be in Lisbon for the first two weeks of December then heading to Antarctica. We’ve been traveling for 2 months straight, and went to Seoul and Singapore as well!
In the spirit of Halloween, we’ve got some design horror stories from our community.
We are also hosting an exciting LinkedIn Live about Mastering LinkedIn in 2025, Personal Branding, and Digital Nomading and an in-person design party in Bangkok on Nov 20. Read more to find out!
Design horror stories
“This was a good few years back now, a client kept flirting with me and asking me for my personal mobile number. When I said no he just started feeding back to everything I did saying it wasn’t good enough. Thankfully my boss fired him as a client so it had a happy ending!” - Pink_syd
“The words "make it look NICE " always send shivers down my spine, especially when the brief given by the client is vague and ominous” - jjwdesigns
“This year I had the most weird client, who will tell me such personal stories every time we had a meeting, she was always with some sort of personal problem. Towards the end of the project (Logo for her Horse Therapy project) she told me she was facing family issues and couldn't pay me the second half, she told me this with tears in her eyes. I didnt know what to say in the call... After the call it hit me. Never heard back from her” - vsuarez1
“when client give me an ambigous reff and says "do it as you like" but ended up getting the "oh, i don't like it, can you change the design?"" - NXMT
“2 jobs ago our product manager said that UX designers "just move shapes on a screen" or something to that effect.” - Slice
“Don't like boxes. Like not even circles or rounded boxes. It took one and half month to design a 3 page website. So many freaking redesigns, asked me to add a background design, I spent hours on each one making sure they all look relevant and nice then said, I should remove them. I never took another request from them ever again” - Yash
